WEBSITE DESIGN

The most effective site in the world doesn't serve its purpose if no one is coming to it.  And if your site doesn't engage users, it doesn't matter how many people come.  So from the ground floor, we'll always be trying to satisfy those two primary objectives: to build traffic and then engage that traffic so as to generate some sort of lead instead of simply building you a pretty site where people come, read, and move on.

One of the most common questions we get is, "How much does a web site cost?"

Asking what web design costs is like us asking you how much a car costs. You need to know mark, model, year, options, etc. Likewise, we need to know a lot of information.

We determine our design price based on many factors including, but not limited to: estimated number of hours required, complexity of the project, size of the project, expectations of the client, level of skill required, global market conditions, current internal work load, etc.

Send us an email with your general requirements, or we chat on the phone for a half hour, we can generally price any website design project after the first conversation.

WEB HOSTING

Web hosting is a necessary part. We used to provide hosting as a reseller. That wasn’t a good solution because we were simply middle men marking up prices on someone else’s service. Then we used to refer our clients to hosting providers, but that wasn’t good either because we had no control over how our customers were serviced. So we broke down and bought our own servers. Our servers are located in USA and Canada and are in a fully secure, state-of-the-art facility.
It’s a bit like owning a condominium: we own a server in someone else’s building. They provide the security and infrastructure that no small company could possible set up. We own the server and have total control over it. Our access to our server is as if we are sitting right in front of it. There is nothing that an ‘on-site’ person could do that we can’t. Anyway, because web hosting has become a commodity, the only way to make a viable business out of it is to cram hundreds of websites on a single server.
When you do that, you have hundreds of individual clients sharing the same computer, the computer’s resources, etc. That also means that you have a bunch of people you don’t know setting up potentially dangerous programs or scripts on the server that could cause it to crash and bring down every site on the server.

We host because it gives us total control of our client’s accounts. This way we have dozens instead of hundreds of accounts on our server. And we know each account intimately. So there is no worrying about what some rogue customer might be trying to use our server for. More importantly, if there is a problem, we have the access we need to fix it. As web developers, one of the biggest frustrations we face is that once we build a web site, it is up to the host to keep it up and running.
Unlike a car, a website just doesn’t “break down” after wear and tear. If we launch your site and everything is working, it will continue to work until someone does something to break it.

Again, we really don’t make much money on hosting. We provide this service so that our clients don’t get lousy service and the run around that most shared hosting providers offer.

Database Design & Application Programming

There are basically two types of web sites: "brochure-ware" site and "functional" sites. Brochure-ware sites essentially take static information and display it on the internet. Functional sites 'do something' that functionality is provided by programming that may or may not be tied to a database. That something may be just about anything.

About any sort of custom functionality can be developed. With today's technology your imagination is really the only limitation. As the saying goes, with enough time and money, we can do just about anything.

It is impossible to price web programming without a thorough discussion of what is involved. If you have an idea and what to know what it will cost to put online, please contact us for a completely free consultation or fill out our free estimate form online.
